There are two things that — no matter how much exposure I get with them, or how many times I sit and face the fear and doubt — continue to make me uncomfortable: uncertainty and experimentation.
I struggle with the mess. The not-knowing. The fear and humiliation of failure. This is ironic because this is the work I do in the world. You'd think by now — after years of leading transformation in cultures, operations, teams, systems, and humans — I'd be over the emotional swirl and I'd remember that this discomfort is short-lived. Necessary. Brave. That I can trust myself. That I will find my way.
I always do.
Since June, I have been bravely piloting open enrollment leadership and team development experiences to make the work I typically do privately and inside organizations more accessible.
Here's what I've been learning:
Connection is required
Even though it feels like the world is imploding, there are a lot of leaders who are not just phoning it in. Who are not just performing their roles. Who care deeply about the people they lead and the organizations they're a part of. These leaders are energized to learn and grow and they need to connect with other humans who are learning and growing and being brave at work and in their lives. I am honored to be providing these spaces and these experiences for this community.Different is good
We all know that the way we work isn't working. We tell ourselves stories that it's too hard to learn to do something new. Something different. When really, the something different is just as much effort and energy as what is old and tired and goes unquestioned. Something different may require us to be more courageous and vulnerable, but different feels better and brings better outcomes. We’re creating organizations people want to work for
The belief that we can deliver at all costs, no matter the impact to our people, is wearing thin. We can thrive and be successful without contributing to the conditions that create organizations people don't want to work for. And we can do it with less effort, energy, and waste. Together, we are learning how.
If you love learning with others about how to courageously evolve your leadership, pilot practices that work and will evolve your team, and that will allow you to be more of who you are, come grow with me.
