Announcing my fall 2023 experiences
I’m elated to share the two development experiences I'm offering this fall. But first, this:
**
Sitting with your fear
doesn't mean you're
dwelling without action.
It means you love yourself enough to have the conversation.
To discover where it came from.
To understand what makes it jump,
out of your heart and onto your lips.
To feel it in your voice.
To know it as your truth.
Sitting with your fear
means you're dedicated to healing.
To undress it and see its flesh.
To recognize it when it makes
a home on your skin.
To become friends with it.
Welcoming it because it makes you better.
Vulnerable —
human.
Sitting with your fear brings you closer
to the most important person in your universe:
You
[Fear in Revolution Song by Morgan Hoog]
**
I’ve spent the summer sitting with my fear of being seen.
I’ve spent the last many years as an Org Design consultant, embedded deep inside organizations of all shapes and sizes, all over the world. I’ve been leading transformation in cultures, in operations, in teams, in systems, in humans. I’ve been comfortable there. It is work I am deeply challenged by and love to do. It is arduous, relentless, and is as unforgiving as it is life giving. This work has shaped me and it has changed the way I see the world. It has brought me to my soul.
Long before the summer started, I made a commitment to start making some of the work I do inside these systems more accessible by creating open enrollment experiences. This is the work that I am proud of. The work that has made an impact. The work that has worked. The work that has changed the way others see the world. The work that has brought people to their souls.
What surprised me was the fear that came with this commitment. The fear of being seen for what I’ve learned. What I’ve come to master. What I’ve crafted.
What if I share what I know to be real and true for organizations and I’m:
Wrong
Uninteresting
Uninspiring
Unintelligent
Unimaginative
Meaningless
Powerless
Worthless
Alone
And perhaps even more terrifying, what if I share what I know to be real and true for organizations and I’m:
Right
Captivating
Disruptive
Meaningful
Essential
Wildly successful
Deserving of my dream
Turns out, sitting with my fear, held by a crab apple tree — for hours upon days upon weeks for nearly the entire summer — began to heal something in me that was so reluctant. I sat under that tree every time the fear came. Each time, for as long as it took, I sat. To listen. To show up for myself. To let the tears and my fears and the doubt leak out. And the more I welcomed the fear, the more I learned that it is only an old cage I use as an excuse to hide from what's possible in my life. To stop being brave. To run from risking. To keep the joy from flooding in.
Turns out, sitting with my fear has made me better. And every time it has tapped me on the shoulder, I’ve faced it so I could compassionately understand the courageous move it is asking me to make.
And now I know there is always something in the fear. Something that is following me, teaching me, and actually trying to love me into who I keep saying I want to become.
So with that, I have released two open enrollment development experiences for the fall. This is the most accessible way to experience the work I do in the world (all of my offerings are available here):
New Ways of Working Course - Six sessions over 90 days
My New Ways of Working course begins September 19. This is a virtual experience of six sessions over 90 days and it offers the skills, tools, and coaching support to shift the ways we typically do things at work that actually get in the way of doing our best work. The curriculum in this course is the "Ways of Doing" side of my transformation work. I will teach the base components that I install in teams (at scale) when we're working towards an org-wide cultural and systems transformation. These ways of working skills make a big difference with how work feels in our day-to-day, every day, no matter our role or size of company. I am offering early bird pricing on this through August 15.
Dare to Lead™ Leadership Development - Two-Day Deep-Dive
The other opportunity I'm offering is actually in-person on October 12-13 in Fort Collins, Colorado. This is a two-day intensive Dare to Lead™ experience (based on the work of Brené Brown) that dives deep into the "Ways of Being" work that is required for any leader, team or organization that wants things like innovation, creativity, trust, collaboration, healthy conflict, and inclusion present. It has changed everything about how I lead, parent, and love, and it is a gift that I absolutely love giving others. I am offering early bird pricing on this through September 15.
And if either of those bring up fear in you, I invite you to join me.
